Ed founded B.I.C Systems in 1984 which developed into a leading technology services business. This was acquired by BT in October 2004 and he became Head of Corporate Development.

In 1998 he joined the board of the NI Software Industry Federation, held the position of Chairman in 1999 – 2000 and remained a board member until 2004.

In 1999 Ed led a strategy development group which produced a landmark plan for expansion of the ICT sector in Northern Ireland. He was a member of Matrix, the Northern Ireland Science and Industry Panel and Chaired the Matrix ICT Group to develop a long term strategy for the ICT sector.

In October 2007 he became Head of the Capital Realisations Taskforce for the Northern Ireland Executive to review the potential for public sector land and property assets optimization, disposal or reuse.

Ed has received a number of business awards including the British Computer Society IT Professional of the Year award, the Institute of Directors’ award of Excellence and inaugural membership of Invest Northern Ireland’s Entrepreneurial Hall of Fame.

He is a board member of Invest Northern Ireland, Chairman of INI’s International subcommittee and Strategic Advisor to BT Ireland. He is also a trustee of the Foundation Board of Queens University and a member of the Northern Ireland Committee of the Institute of Directors.
